Introduction

Keyword research is the foundation of every successful SEO strategy. In this case study, I am sharing the complete process of how I conducted keyword research and clustering for a Digital Marketing Institute aiming to rank for the competitive keyword “digital marketing course in Chennai.”

This project covers:

If you are a beginner in SEO or a digital marketing learner, this project will show you how to conduct end-to-end keyword research using free tools.

🟦 1. Project Overview

The main goal of this project was to identify high-intent keywords that can help a Digital Marketing Institute rank on Google and attract quality leads.

The primary target keyword was:
👉 “digital marketing course in Chennai”

From this seed keyword, I expanded my research, analyzed competitors, cleaned irrelevant terms, and finalized a strong keyword strategy for future SEO activities.

  • Google Search (SERP Analysis)

  • SEO Minion Chrome Extension (On-page checks + SERP data)

  • ChatGPT (Guidance, clustering & strategy support)

❌ Paid Tools Explored but Not Fully Used

From the initial 50+ keywords:

❌ Removed

  • irrelevant search intents

  • job/internship keywords

  • unrelated city keywords

  • branded institute names

✔ Final result: 20+ highly relevant, high-intent keywords
